Marcin Bącal in a TV show „Państwo w Państwie”

In this episode Partner Marcin Bącal, Co-Head of the Litigation Practice, clarifies situations in which the Court may hand down a default judgment and presents conditions to be met to enable the court to restore a time limit to take an action in legal proceedings.

Piotr Zapalski promoted to Partner

CDZ is proud to announce that Piotr Zapalski has been promoted to Partner. He will be co-heading the real estate and construction practice area.

CDZ wins a tender for provision of legal services to PGE Systemy

In December 2018 CDZ won a tender for provision of legal services to PGE Systemy S.A., an ITC provider for companies of the PGE S.A. Group.

CDZ’s comprehensive advice will cover telecommunications law and legal issues connected with operations of telecommunication businesses, including issues connected with the application of companies and civil law, with a particular focus on obligations and substantive law.

PGE Systemy is another PGE Group company for which CDZ has provided services. Previously, CDZ advised PGE Energia Odnawialna.

Ewa Don-Siemion mentors in Mentors4Starters program, 5th edition

The Mentors4Starters program has been conceived and organized by Global Shapers Warsaw Hub, part of an international network of hubs in the largest global cities. The Global Shapers Community was set up by the World Economic Forum. The key objective of the Mentors4Starters foundation is to promote mentoring in Poland.

As part of the program and within CDZ's CSR activities, Ewa Don-Siemion will share her expertise, tools and knowledge of the business services sector, legal services outsourcing and advice to international companies on Polish labor law.

Mentors4Starters is a program for those intending to launch their own start-ups or planning a career in corporate or international organizations.

Andrzej Chajec ranked by the Best Lawyers 2018 ranking

Best Lawyers has named Andrzej Chajec as one of the best lawyers in Poland in the field of corporate law and M&A transactions.

Best Lawyers is one of the oldest and most respected international legal rankings. The methodology is based on a compilation of peer-review surveys in which leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their colleagues within the same geographical region and legal practice area.

CDZ Lex Torpedoes running team runs in EKIDEN 2018

On Sunday 13 May 2018 in Szczesliwicki Park, CDZ Lex Torpedoes took part in the EKIDEN run completing 42,195 km and reaching the finish with a total time of 03:43:35. This placed us at 378th place (out of 754 teams participating). Congratulations to the running team and thanks to our fans and supporters!

CDZ a Patron of the Polish contemporary art

CDZ supports the Polish Modern Art Foundation, including the Keret House and the Exhibitions Bureau, as part of its Corporate Cultural Responsibility (CCR). CDZ will provide the Foundation with legal advice on a pro bono basis. The Foundation is one of the first independent non-profit organizations in the field of art and culture. It promotes and supports talented artists who contribute to the development of contemporary art in Central and Eastern Europe.

INTERLAW awarded "Elite Global Law Firm Network" by Chambers Global 2018

INTERLAW, The International Association of Independent Law Firms, where CDZ has been a member since 2011, has been awarded "Elite Global Law Firm Network" status in Chambers Global 2018.

CDZ publications on the Global Sales Compliance online library

The library contains articles and publications on banking and finance, capital markets, fund registration and structuring, and marketing by authors from 70 countries. CDZ contributed to the Poland section on TMT and data protection.

CDZ announces partners promotions

CDZ Legal Advisors has elected four associates to the partnership, effective 1 March 2018.

The lawyers elected to the partnership are:

Marcin Bącal, legal advisor, specializes in court and administrative proceedings in the field of insolvency and telecommunications law. He also deals with insolvency and restructuring proceedings. He was named a Rising Star by the ranking of the nation-wide legal newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna and Wolters Kluwer.

Jolanta Okoniecka, legal advisor, has been heading the corporate and commercial practices. She has over 20 years’ experience in corporate work, M&A and commercial transactions. She is recommended by the Legal 500 EMEA in these fields.

Weronika Papucewicz, legal advisor, specializes in individual and collective labor relations, personal data protection, and anti-discrimination law. She supports entrants to the Polish market, in particular clients from the BPO/SSC sectors. She was named a Rising Star by the ranking of the nation-wide legal newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna and Wolters Kluwer.

Aleksandra Szyszko-Kamińska, legal advisor, has over 10 years’ experience in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, start-up and seed investments. In addition, she specializes in restructuring and optimization of holding structures, with an emphasis on non-bank financing and financial settlement of transactions.

Mariusz Busiło appointed Vice Chairman of the Personal Data Protection Committee

On 1 February 2018, the members of the Personal Data Protection and Information Management Committee at the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications chose the new composition of the body managing the work of the Committee. Mariusz Busiło, a CDZ lawyer specializing in regulatory issues and commercial aspects of telecommunications, media and internet laws, as well as data protection laws, was chosen as the Committee Vice Chairman.

The Personal Data Protection and Information Management Committee represents the ICT sector and deals with all matters related to data, including personal data regulations. The Committee focuses on such areas of activity as personal data protection, privacy, management of data (including large data filing systems) and trade secrets.

Mariusz Busiło is also a PIIT expert in electromagnetic fields. The Chamber’s members include companies from the information and communication technology sector.

Andrzej Abramczuk on the Management Board of Netia S.A.

On December 12, 2017, the Supervisory Board of Netia S.A. elected Andrzej Abramczuk, CDZ Partner and Head of the TMT practice area, as a Member of Netia's Management Board, and appointed him Director for Strategy and Operations.

Andrzej specializes in advising the largest Polish telecommunications, media and technology companies on strategy development and launching new products and services on the TMT market. Before joining CDZ, he acted as the head of legal departments and member of the management boards or the supervisory boards of numerous telecommunication companies, such as P4, 3G Network Services, GTS Poland, Cel Polska, Midas and CenterNet.

Patryk Galicki new Partner at CDZ

Patryk has joined CDZ as a new partner heading the real estate practice area.

specializes in real estate transactions, financing and refinancing investments, as well restructuring processes. He has a vast experience in advising international investment funds, private equity firms, Polish and foreign investors, and financial institutions. He has advised on numerous multimillion international and domestic transactions.

Prior to joining CDZ, Patryk practiced in leading international law firms where, among other things, he led the real estate and M&A practice areas. For many years, he has been recommended by prominent international rankings as a leading lawyer in real estate, construction and corporate law on the Polish market.

Małgorzata Sas-Madej nominated as a Rising Star 2017

The "Rising Stars – Leaders of Tomorrow 2017" competition, organized for the sixth time by Wolters Kluwer and the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, will select ten young lawyers who provide the highest standards of legal services drawing on their knowledge, entrepreneurial skills and social attitudes.

Małgorzata Sas-Madej, a CDZ advocate, was nominated as one of 30 rising legal stars of 2017. She specializes in business, commercial and capital markets law. She advises on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and restructuring transactions. Małgorzata advises public companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and represents clients in court proceedings related to corporate governance.

She graduated cum laude from the Faculty of Law and Administration and the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University. She is a PhD student at the Department of Economic Policy of the Jagiellonian University. She is actively involved in pro bono activities.

NEW CDZ BREAKFAST | Hard cases made easy - employment law workshops

This series of workshops will offer practical solutions to real life situations facing HR professionals today. Each session will take 1.5 hours during which participants will analyze not so typical cases reflecting actual but anonymized experiences of our clients.

You will be taught how to solve legal complexities involved there and how to achieve the best result for your company. Some sessions will involve role playing and other interactive elements. Theory will be kept to a minimum.

CDZ and Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights win employment dispute

CDZ represented, on a pro bono basis, before the courts of first and second instances, a history teacher who also taught religion and was a trade union member.

The dispute concerned a wrongful dismissal and the main claim was for unequal treatment on account of employment basis and employment termination procedure. The school terminated the teacher’s employment after he had been stripped of the right to teach religion notwithstanding the fact that he was protected by his trade union membership.

The court of first instance did not allow the claim of unequal treatment but awarded damages to the dismissed teacher for unfair employment termination. The court of second instance modified the judgment to the teacher’s advantage and reinstated him as a history teacher and awarded him damages for the entire period of unemployment. The judgment is final and non-appealable.

The employee was represented by Piotr Kryczek, legal advisor, and Weronika Papucewicz, advocate.

Lex Torpedoes on the Warsaw Business Run 2017

For the third consecutive year our running team took part in a charity event, the Warsaw Business Run, completing the half marathon route. Our team came 224th out of 857 teams participating. This year, the event has raised over PLN 1.6 mln which will be donated to the Polish Business Run Foundation.

We are also a strategic partner of the run which we support by providing legal assistance to the Poland Business Run Foundation that organizes the annual event.

Weronika Papucewicz trains finalists of the European Labor Law Moot Court Competition

On 25 April 2017, Weronika Papucewicz was a judge in a pre-moot preparing students of the Law and Administration Faculty of Warsaw University for the oral part of the Hugo Sinzheimer Moot Court Competition in European Labor Law. The cases tried were related to a transfer of an organized element of an enterprise and employee discrimination on account of age. Good luck to all the finalists in Denmark!

Andrzej Abramczuk elected Vice-Chairman of PIIT for the second consecutive term

On 28 April 2017 the inauguration meeting of the Council of the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications (PIIT) was held, during which the Council appointed in a secret ballot a new chairman, two vice chairmen, and the Management of the Council for the 2017-2019 term.

Andrzej Abramczuk is also a member of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce for Electronics and Telecommunications and serves as an arbitrator for the Standing Arbitration Consumer Court at the Office of Electronic Communications.

Farewell to Tomasz Mizikowski

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Tomasz Mizikowski, one of our partners, passed away on April 26.  Tomasz was an invaluable friend, a trusted colleague and a wise mentor to many young lawyers. His death is an immense loss.  Tomasz’ kindness, wisdom and his great sense of humor will remain in our memories forever.

On 14 and 15 March 2017 the Seventh Lawyer Internship and Work Fair will be held at the University Library building in Warsaw. The fair is organized by BCSystems Legal Recruitment & Business Advisory in cooperation with the Law and Administration Faculty of Warsaw University and its Student Self-Governing Organization.

Visitors to CDZ’s stand will have an opportunity to meet our young lawyers who have been hired by CDZ following successful internships – they will share their advice on how to start a legal career and use interpersonal skills in team work, which for us, are the most important in teamwork. Our HR Director will also be there to tell about summer internships, working at CDZ and career path.

Mariusz Busiło appointed as an expert in electromagnetic fields by PIIT

On 10 February 2017 the Council of the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications, following a proposal by its Board, appointed four new experts in the following areas: issues related to electromagnetic fields; education and cooperation between business and universities; human resources management and public aid for investors; and smart grids.

Mariusz Busiło is a specialist in regulatory issues and commercial aspects of telecommunications and media, competition, copyright and internet laws.

The Chamber’s members include companies from the information and communication technology sector.

CDZ prepared a study on Telecoms, Media And Internet In Poland on behalf of the Polish Information and Foreign Investments Agency (PAIiIZ)

In Poland, the telecommunications, audio-visual distribution and internet infrastructure sectors are liberalised, well developed, and strongly competitive, with the potential for foreign investments and mergers and acquisitions.

Weronika Papucewicz interviewed by Rzeczpospolita Daily’s “RZECZoPRAWIE” program

Weronika Papucewicz, a CDZ lawyer, was hosted by Mateusz Rzemek in his program on 14 November 2016 to comment on why the long-awaited legal changes to permit the financial sector to vet job candidates have been scrapped. According to the “Morawiecki Plan”, the bill proposing 100 changes to the legal business environment, entities subject to financial supervision were to be allowed to ask candidates about their criminal records.

For the second consecutive year our running team, Lex Torpedoes, took part in a charity event, the Warsaw Business Run, completing 5x4.2 km and reaching the finish with a total time of 01:44:38. This placed us in 190th place (out of 690 teams participating), improving on last year’s result by 58 places.

Weronika Papucewicz interviewed by Rzeczpospolita

Weronika Papucewicz, a CDZ lawyer, was invited by Mateusz Rzemek onto his program on 1 June 2016 to comment on employee rights related to parenting. Weronika talked about how employers and employees can regulate matters related to exercising parental rights without harming their mutual relationships. The interview focused primarily on maternity and parental leave. Weronika also presented the best solutions employers apply in this area.

CDZ Supports the Pro Bono Program of the Polish Society of Anti-Discrimination Law

In June 2016, CDZ and the Polish Society of Anti-Discrimination Law (PSADL) signed a cooperation agreement under which CDZ will provide free-of-charge legal support in cases related to human rights, and in particular to afford legal protection against unwarranted unequal treatment.

The cooperation concerns cases of discrimination based on gender, age, disability, race or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, sexual identity, religion, denomination or non-belief. It also covers unlawful unequal treatment in such areas as labor and employment, access to goods and services, education, healthcare or social welfare.

As part of the cooperation, CDZ will represent persons referred by the PSADL before common courts, the Supreme Court, administrative courts, law enforcement agencies, public administration bodies, the European Court of Human Rights and other international authorities whose task is to protect the rights and liberties of individuals.

The CDZ lawyers involved in the project include Ewa Don-Siemion and Piotr Kryczek, Partners, and Weronika Papucewicz.

CDZ wins tender to provide legal services to PGE Energia Odnawialna

CDZ has been advising PGE EO since April 2015. Over the last year, we advised the company on the restructuring of its subsidiaries through M&A transactions and other means, represented it in many court proceedings, and carried out a legal due diligence analysis of Eolica Wojciechowo, a wind farm owner.

CDZ at the 5th Lawyer Internship and Work Fair

On 17 and 18 March 2015 the Fifth Lawyer Internship and Work Fair will be held in the Warsaw University Library building. CDZ is a partner of the event for the fourth time.

This year over 80 organizations will be present at the fair, including the biggest and most prestigious law firms, legal sector organizations and legal departments that are oriented towards innovative and creative work with young people. Institutional patrons of the fair include the Polish Association of Corporate Lawyers and the Association of Prosecutors of the Republic of Poland. 

CDZ a patron of the Arts

CDZ supports the IMKA Theater as part of its Corporate Culture Responsibility (CCR).

The IMKA Theater’s plays are intended for a broad audience that seeks more than just entertainment. In addition to good fun and a dose of laughter, the theater offers plays based on outstanding literature that pose fundamental questions and are food for thought.
